So, what should I do next?

Since you have made it this far, you probably have already devoted some time and thought the shortcomings in your home that you would like to correct through remodeling. You have probably also come to realize that there are myriad contractors criss-crossing the area who are all very eager to lay hammer and nail to your home.

The prudent next step toward a successful project, whether a renovation or new construction, is a telephone call to our offices. We will gather some basic information about your project. A meeting may then be scheduled for one of our staff to visit with you to further discuss the project. These in-home appointments are set between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday. We request that all decision makers to the process be present, so be sure to arrange a time that will permit this. In general, this initial meeting lasts from 1 to 2 hours.

How Should I Prepare For The Meeting?

The very best way to prepare for this first meeting is a reflection on what lifestyle and aesthetic issues you are seeking to resolve with your project. Are there particular problems, no matter how small or trivial they may seem, that you seek to solve through remodeling?

We suggest organizing your thoughts into three types of lists. Your NEED's, WANT's and WISH list.
  • Your NEED's list is the reason we are meeting.
  • The WANT's list identifies other things you would like to incorporate into the project, budget permitting.
  • The WISH list allows for thinking outside the box and includes all of the dreams you would wish to have in the completed project.
The important thing here is that you are fully prepared to discuss your project goals. The free initial consultation should be more of a casual conversation than a formal question and answer session. The meeting has several objectives:
  1. To freely discuss your needs and wants and wishes for the project.
  2. To allow our company to present our services, specialties and distinguishing characteristics.
  3. To judge the compatibility of our personalities and insure that realistic expectations can be met.

Other Important Necessary Information:

  1. Locate a recent survey of the property. This information will tell us what the building setbacks are.
  2. Locate a recent Elevation Certificate for the first floor living space.
  3. Locate a recent appraisal of your property. This will aid in the determination of FEMA compliance in flood zone properties.
  4. If available, locate the original or remodeled building plans of your house. Often, homeowners will pass these construction documents on to future owners of the house. These drawings will provide for a quick-start to the design process.
  5. Begin looking through magazines and clip out the styles and details of the things you like and dislike about your anticipated construction project. These photos will be very helpful communicating your wishes to our design team. Store these pictures in a binder for when it is time to start detailing your selections.
Also, be prepared to discuss the budget you have set aside to solve your problems. Will you be arranging your own financing? Will you need a referral to a lending institution to help get this end of the process underway? All of this, and more, will be discussed in the context of your meeting.

After the initial consultation, our staff evaluates the fit of both the project and client with our company. We have found that certain projects and clients are better served by our unique skills, experience and personalities. TriplePoint Design Build takes the team approach to all projects. We work closely with the owners and design professionals to bring the project to a successful conclusion.
