Project Description

Our client had lived in the home for the past ten years. Their young family was slowly purchasing Olde World traditional furniture for their interior decor. It was obvious there was a need to maintain that architectural style with the exterior. With two young boys, they still needed a large rear yard, so maintaining the same footprint of the pool area was desired.

Enter the Design Team: The bird cage and contemporary color scheme was outdated and unchanged since the original construction in 1990. There was not a fluid transition from pool deck to rear yard. During design meetings with the owner, we identified the following items and modifications they were interested in incorporating into the new scope of work for the project:

Project Objectives:
  • Maintain symmetry and balance with the new construction to the existing home.
  • Remove the birdcage and open the space to the large rear yard and adjoining golf course.
  • Add benches and seating to the new pool shape.
  • Introduce arches and columns consistent with the front elevation.
  • Have the new construction blend in with the interior architecture, highlighting an Olde World, Tuscany style.
  • Create a flow from indoor living to outdoor living, tying the two spaces together.
  • Create soft exterior landscape highlight to highlight the new space.
Project Challenges:
  • Construction around extensive old growth landscaping.
  • Clients to live in structure during construction.
  • Pool plumbing leaks throughout the pool deck.
Project Solutions:
  • Remove pool cage to open up the views.
  • Locate plumbing leaks and cut up concrete pool deck for repairs. Add under water suction piping for "creepy crawley" devise.
  • Add benches in pool underwater space and modify shape of spa.
  • Construct steps off rear of pool deck to allow flow to rear yard.
  • Construct soft arches between structural posts of covered lanai. Surround posts with tapered gothic columns.
  • Cover pool deck and steps with 18" square marble stone. The diagonal pattern was selected to continue the flow of indoor tile to outdoor space.
Project Summary:
One of the primary objectives of the design was to create a comfortable, spacious flow from indoor space to outdoor space, focusing on the clients desire to establish an "open" feel from the rear lanai to the rear yard. A desire for beauty, as well as function was emphasized.

Our design solution, as illustrated in the following pages, represents this exterior specialty remodel to the rear outdoor space.

In addition, we have pictorially represented this project with "before" photo's adjacent to all of the "remodeled" photo's on all of the major views of this spectacular space transformation. Enjoy!
